M-Tiba - Saving for healthcare on a mobile phone
Johnstone Simuyu, is a casual worker, living on the bread-line in Kawangware, a slum near Nairobi. Like over a third of the population in Kenya, he often had problems paying for healthcare for himself and his family. That is until he joined M-TIBA, a mobile payment service, which is now helping millions of people across the country to put small sums aside for medical care when they need it most.
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) commissioned us to carry out the research as well as the production of a set of captivating, innovative and inspiring human interest stories (both videography and photography) on the use of ICT within the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in both, Kenya and Uganda. The first story in this series is about M-TIBA, an electronic health wallet that changes the lives of thousands of people across Kenya.
